In our company, now, a commercial activity looking the merits of cast
iron roller over again with users is developed, and we have one catchphrase
for it.
“ Do you remember the merit of the cast iron roller of black luster formed

We have improved the faults of the cast iron roller, and named it Black Roll.
While our company lasts 80 years, we have been providing users with noodle
machines, and we have had confidence that there is no roller which is superior
to cast iron roller for making noodles.
We propose Black Roll which covered the fault of a cast iron roll splendidly. |
You know enough the merits of the jet-black cast iron roller which continued
using over many years, if you engage in the noodle-making trade for a long
time.
The merits are the moderate force of drawing dough, the resisting nature
against adhering, the fitness for the scraper, and so on. |
However in recent years, the “ seasoning ” process of a cast iron roller
is skipped more often to shorten the time for delivery, or to save a storage
place.
While there is not enough time for seasoning after casting, the cast iron
material will be machined into a product of roller.
For this reason, thickness on the roll surface is lost, hardness is also
low and rust generating becomes remarkable. |
Many plating rollers have been used as what covers this material-fault
in recent years.
The plating rollers are divided roughly as follows.
① Hard chromium plating roller
② Non-electrolytic nickel plating roller
In the case of ①, when the material is cast iron, plating cannot ride easily. When it bites
a hard object, there is a possibility that plating may exfoliate. Furthermore,
a corner part rides too thinly and an angle part rides too thickly.
In the case of ②, although it rides uniformly beautiful on the ground or on the corner,
thickness of plating is as thin as 20 micrometer or less, so in early time
it will be peeled out with the scraper. |
A resin roller and a stainless steel roller came to be adopted as what
is replaced with a cast iron roller recently.
However, a resin roller has troubles of aging and is poor in force of drawing
dough into band of noodle, and as for a stainless steel roller, various
problems ( thin film of noodle adhering to the roll surface, poor fitness
with the scraper, and microscopic “ pot-mark ” ( a kind of rust ) arising
after long use ) are surfacing.

The rust arising at the start of operation, that is peculiar fault of cast
iron roller, is not found in Black Roll.

The hard surface
Since nitriding processing is carried out, higt nitride ferrite layer of
hardness is distributed near the surface.
The smooth skin
By the middle of a manufacture process since polishing is applied, field
coarseness is precise.
Outstanding corrosion resistance
It is covered by the oxidization film excellent in corrosion resistance
by the black finish process. |
On the time of the standup of the noodle-making line of a certain user,
the roll dirt in early stages of operation was mixed into band of noodle
and dirtied it in a blackish color.
There was an indication from the user that this blackish dirt was original
with a Black Roll, and the user worried about the toxicity.
Then, we decided to apply the waste of the noodle to a toxic assay.

The sample includes a very little quanity of Cr,Fe, nickel, Cu and Zn, but they have no infiuence on a human body. |
Moreover, the “ mercury ” and “ cyanogen ” which make a compound and expresses
toxicity, are as a result of it not being detected or “ super-pole very
small quantiny ”, and quantity from which safety becomes a problem was
not detected. |
Black Roll gained the actual result in various lines,
and has obtained high evaluation as a noodle-making roller. |
